Upon Graduation

Note: This course will be conducted via online learning, except for selected modules that will be more effective conducted face-to-face. This is subject to prevailing COVID-19 measures implemented by the government. Students will be notified at least 2 weeks prior to the commencement of modules that are conducted face-to-face.

Skills-Based Modular Courses (SBMC) and Professional Development Programme (PDP)

All modules in the CIP are offered as SBMCs and will be recognised as modular courses for the Professional Development Programme for Teachers (PDP-T). Learn more here.

Entry Requirements

ECDA-certified L2 preschool teachers who:

  • Have been practising for at least one year; and
  • Have successfully completed the Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education – Teaching (DECCE-T) or its equivalent.

<IMPORTANT> (1) Priority will be given to applicants sponsored by preschools that offer the Inclusive Support Programme (InSP) or other early intervention services, i.e. the Development Support – Learning Support and Development Support Plus (DS-LS and DS Plus) Programmes. (2) In addition, this is a practice-based course where there is a significant amount of discussion and facilitated peer learning. As such, applicants will need to have on-going access to children (i.e. more than 1) with additional needs.

How to Apply

CIP comprises 7 modules, subdivided into 3 clusters. You may apply for this course as:

  • 3 Skills-Based Modular Courses (SBMCs) [Clusters A, B and C] OR
  • 7 singular SBMC units [7 modules] OR
  • A full qualification.

Each SBMC or SBMC unit will be stackable towards the full qualification. By completing all 3 SBMCs or 7 singular SBMC units, you will be able to attain the full Certificate.

Pre-Requisites

  • Students must attempt CIP Cluster A and meet the minimum attendance requirements, before progressing to CIP Cluster B or C.

1. Introduction to Early Childhood Inclusive Practice (ECIP)

This module provides students with broad understanding of the emerging and ongoing trends of inclusion; the programme philosophy of inclusion; quality of inclusion and how it differs from special needs education. Students will revisit the images of the child, the teachers and families, as perceived images will affect their roles in including children.

2. Learning Differences in Children (LDIC)

This module covers behaviours, needs and strengths of children with disabilities, as they are key to identifying and applying appropriate strategies and understanding the types of support required for their learning.

3. Learning Environment for Inclusive Practice (LEIP)

In this module, students will learn about the role that the learning environment plays in the successful inclusion of young children. Key areas such as classroom climate, modelling of inclusive language, and intentionality of the curriculum will be explored.

4. Classroom and Behaviour Management (CLBM)

This module explores effective classroom management and behaviour intervention strategies for challenging behaviours. Students will learn about the role the environment plays in supporting positive behaviour in preschools.

5. Differentiated Learning in Preschool (DLIP)

This module will explore principles of Universal Design for Learning in early childhood classrooms. Principles of differentiation will be applied across daily activities and routines.

6. Effective Communication and Collaboration with Families & Other Professionals (ECFO)

This module will cover interpersonal and practical skills in communicating and collaborating with families and external stakeholders that supports children with additional needs (e.g. the therapist, psychologist, social worker) for case management.

7. Shaping an Inclusive Practice (SHIP)

This module will focus on the importance of a culture of shared responsibility and respect in order to provide optimal support for all children included in the setting. Content will cover communication and interpersonal skills for working with supervisors, co-teachers, and support staff to create a shared understanding of inclusion and the development of an inclusive practice.
