No touching of children, parents filing police reports: Male preschool teachers find support as they face stigma, distrust

The article highlighted the formation of the support group “Men in Preschools Singapore”, founded by Mr Muhammad Hadi Kamal, Mr Mohamad Noorhisyam Rohani, Mr Malik Saiful Nizam Rosli, and Mr James Eu Ming Han, all graduates of NIEC (TP).

The group addresses challenges such as gender stereotypes from parents and school restrictions that male educators often face, which their female colleagues do not encounter. One member, Mr Gerald Chia Yong Kang, a graduate of NIEC (NP), expressed his gratitude for the networking and problem-solving support provided by the group, where male educators collaborate to overcome these challenges.

Men in Preschools Singapore has since expanded its mission to raise awareness among parents and advocate for improved mentorship for male early childhood educators. Their efforts have also drawn the attention of ECDA, which has sought their input to enhance mentorship opportunities for male educators in the sector.
